The 4 steps for Criticism
1. Description
What does it look like? Just the facts.... What do you see? Colors? Lines? textures? patterns? shapes?
2. Analysis
How did the artist do it? What are the relationships within the design of art? What do you think is going on in the piece of art?
Movement? Balance? Contrast? What element stands out? How are they used?
3. Interpretation
What is the Artist trying to say? What thoughts or feelings when looking at this do you feel?
4. Judgement
Tell me what you think and why? Do you like it? Was it successful? why or why not?
What makes this piece of art effective? Is it saying what the artist wants to say?
